Filey has an arcing, sandy beach and is a peaceful alternative to boisterous Scarborough, just up the coast. Favoured by the chocolate magnate Joseph Terry’s family in Victorian times, there has always been a genteel aura at the resort, which continues today. The beach is perfect for a stroll and Flamborough Head lighthouse stand guard in the distance. Behind the beach, you’ll find independent shops and smart hotels. In short, it’s a perfect place to unwind and recharge the batteries.

A gentle scene at Filey.
