Season: summer

This sandy oasis on Anglesey’s rocky northern shore is ideal for families and children, as it’s a safe place for rockpooling, crabbing and paddling.  It’s also ideal for a romantic walk or for exploring the many hidden coves in the area.  There are two beaches in the bay, Traeth Mawr (Big Beach) and Traeth Bach (Little Beach).  To add to the picturesque setting, there’s a small pier and Samson’s Rock, which is steeped in village folklore.  The little town of Cemaes overlooks both beaches.

Season: summer

The beach at Benllech sits in front of one of Anglesey’s most popular holiday villages.  The sandy strand is enjoyed by water sports enthusiasts and walkers alike, as the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path crosses the beach.  There are quality shops and cafes readily to hand and a relaxed atmosphere.  The beach is flat and spacious, a fine place to unwind and get away from it all.

Season: summer

It is a short walk from the village of Rhydwyn down a steep path to a beautiful bay which harbours this fine little beach, made up of rocks, pebbles and sand.  Steep cliffs behind the beach feature the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path and there’s a handy car park.  This is a Blue Flag beach, which is cleaned regularly and therefore ideal for paddling or swimming.  Sailing and fishing are also popular at Church Bay.  The sunset is a highlight here, which I was lucky enough to witness during this visit.  At such a time, the horizon seems far away and enticing.
