Season: summer

Pwllheli has two Blue Flag beaches, each with excellent bathing water quality.  Being part of a Special Area of Conservation, there is the chance to see wildflowers in the dunes and dolphins out in Cardigan Bay.  The shingle South Beach stretches from Gimblet Rock along the promenade towards Llanbedrog.  Glan-y-Mor beach is located at the back of the marina, sandy and running for three miles to the Pen-y-Chain headland.  During the summer, Pwllheli is very popular with visitors.  The town is a magnet for shoppers and those looking for a bite to eat.  Keep an eye on the tide, as the pull is strong during the middle of the tide run and can catch people out.

Season: summer

Looking out to Cardigan Bay in the Snowdonia National Park, Barmouth has a sandy beach that is popular with families.  The promenade behind the beach carries a land train and there are amusements and other entertainment nearby.  Water sports enthusiasts are attracted here, so there is plenty for everyone at Barmouth.  Sea swimming has become popular in recent years and the town supports many organised swimming events.  Every kind of entertainment is available on this beach, from donkey rides to swing boats.  Why not try a trip around the estuary in a pleasure boat?  If you want to explore further afield, Snowdonia’s wonderful hills are close by.

Porth Dinllaen

Season: summer

The sweeping Porth Dinllaen beach sits in the lea of Carreg Dhu headland on the Llyn peninsula. As with many of the North Wales beaches, there’s a slipway, which makes boating popular here.  Now under the stewardship of the National Trust, Porth Dinllaen has no dog restrictions, with picnic sites and an adjacent pub.  The village behind the beach is a car free zone, although some parking is available.  The beach and setting is beautiful, so it’s well worth a visit.
