Season: summer

Boulmer is a small fishing village, located just north of the sandy beach at Alnmouth.  Popular with holidaymakers, there is a timeless feel here and it’s an ideal destination for those seeking peace and quiet.  Most of the houses have unobstructed sea views .  Although the beach is rocky, it’s a short walk north to the exquisite Sugar Sands, a hidden gem.  Between Boulmer and nearby Longhoughton is an RAF base.

Season: summer

Sitting at the end of a sheltered inlet on Holy Island, Porth Dafarch offers a safe anchorage for passing yachts.  There is a sandy beach, with rock pools for children and clean bathing water.  Porth Dafarch has Blue Flag status and is recommended by the Marine Conservation Society.  A slipway supports boating and diving, both popular here.  There’s good fishing too, making this beach a jewel in the Anglesey crown.

Season: summer

Druridge Bay has a long stretch of sandy beach, which is privately owned and which stretches from Amble to Cresswell.  It is divided into Druridge Bay North, running between the Northumberland Coast Country Park and the National Trust property and Druridge Bay South. There are picnic areas and nature trails and the whole area is a wildlife haven, with regular sightings of graylag and pink-footed geese, as well as grasshopper warblers.  For the more adventurous, cycling and water sports are popular here.
