About manonabeach

On a beach…welcome to manonabeach.com, where I’ll regularly add video of my beach visits, so you can enjoy a flavour of the beach, even when you’re not there.

Filey

Season: summer

Filey has an arcing, sandy beach and is a peaceful alternative to boisterous Scarborough, which is just up the coast.  Popularised by the chocolate magnate Joseph Terry’s family in Victorian times, there has always been a genteel aura at the resort, which still resonates.  The beach is perfect for a stroll and Flamborough Head lighthouse stands guard in the distance.  Behind the beach and the promenade, you’ll find independent shops and smart hotels.  In short, it’s a perfect place to unwind and recharge your batteries.

Season: summer

This is one of the most famous beaches in Britain, the archetypal bucket and spade destination for the good people of the West Riding of Yorkshire for many years and still today.  The beach sweeps majestically round to the harbour, backed by brightly lit amusement arcades, ice cream parlours, restaurants and pubs. There’s always a bubbly, outgoing banter and atmosphere.  It’s always show time.  The beach itself has acres of golden sand and usually plenty of visitors, happy to take the air and to enjoy being by the seaside.

Scarborough North Bay

Season: summer

North Bay has a less well known beach than the dramatic South Bay, yet it is just as attractive, with sweeping, golden sands and backed by cliffs.  As you’d expect at Scarborough, there are plenty of attractions at hand, in this case a miniature railway line and the Sea Life Centre, as well as crazy golf.  The beach is safe for bathing, with lifeguard cover during the season.  With Scarborough Castle standing guard on the horizon, this is a safe and family friendly beach.
