Season: autumn

Herne Bay’s beach sits just to the east of the harbour, which itself features Neptune’s Long Arm (a sea wall) and a pier with amusements.  The beach is sandy, backed by a promenade with beach huts.  Victorian architecture abounds, as do fish ‘n chip shops.  There’s a lifeguard service from Easter through the summer, so this is a safe beach to swim from.  Often referred to as a quintessentially English seaside resort, Herne Bay has something for every visitor.  Highly recommended.

Season: autumn

West Bay sits just to the west of St Mildred’s Bay, separated from it by high chalk cliffs.  It is sandy with rock pools, making it popular with families.  As a frequent Blue Flag award winner, there is seasonal lifeguard cover and the bathing water is clean, so this is a fine beach to swim from.  You can also enjoy excellent sunsets here, perhaps sipping a drink or having a meal at the cafe, which opens in the evenings.

Season: autumn

St Mildred’s Bay is sandy, with a promenade and cliffs, as well as offering good access to the adjacent towns of Westgate and Margate.  There’s a tidal pool for swimming in the clean bathing water, plus seasonal lifeguard cover.  All the usual water sports are available to visitors, including windsurfing, sailing and boating, supported by a slipway.  There’s a cafe, beach huts and even deckchairs for hire.  This is a good visitor location for all the family.
