Mundesley Beach

Season: summer

With a National Coastwatch Institute lookout right by the beach, Blue Flag status and clean and safe bathing water, Mundesley beach is welcoming to any water sports enthusiast or swimmer.  There is seasonal lifeguard cover and convenient facilities in the adjacent town.  The beach is long and sandy, a joy for children to play on, although it’s never far to the sea at any stage of the tide.  There’s a promenade with beach huts too.

Deal Beach

Season: autumn

This is a long shingle beach that runs from north of Kingsdown beach, on past Walmer beach to the town of Deal, with its pier.  It is a dog-friendly beach and there are wonderful walks in both directions from Deal.  The town behind the beach offers many independent shops.  It’s also steeped in history, with a castle and a part of the town being included in a Conservation Area.  The beach has a slipway for sailing boats and leisure craft.  Both fishing and swimming in the clean bathing water are also popular.

Allhallows

Season: autumn

Allhallows on the Thames estuary is probably the nearest conventional beach to London.  Located on the Hoo Peninsula, there’s a sailing club at the western end, but mostly the beach is backed by a holiday camp, making this place a welcome escape to the seaside for Londoners.  There are quieter, more secluded beaches within walking distance, such as Yantlet, to the east.  Allhallows is a sandy beach and there’s a cafe to hand, plus a nearby pub.  This is a fine location to stretch your legs.
