Season: autumn
Allhallows on the Thames estuary is probably the nearest conventional beach to London. Located on the Hoo Peninsula, there’s a sailing club at the western end, but mostly the beach is backed by a holiday camp, making this place a welcome escape to the seaside for Londoners. There are quieter, more secluded beaches within walking distance, such as Yantlet, to the east. Allhallows is a sandy beach and there’s a cafe to hand, plus a nearby pub. This is a fine location to stretch your legs.
What the beach means to Sue.
Low tide at Allhallows.
This looks bleak at low tide, but there is always wildlife to be seen. My favourites are the birds. I always wonder where they come from and where they are heading. They seem so free.
