Allhallows, on the Thames estuary, is probably the nearest conventional beach to London. Located on the Hoo Peninsula, there’s a sailing club at the western end, but mostly the beach is backed by a holiday camp, a welcome escape to the seaside for Londoners. There are quieter, more secluded beaches within walking distance, such as Yantlet, to the east. Allhallows is a sandy beach and there’s a cafe / restaurant to hand, plus a nearby pub. Well worth a visit, to stretch your legs.
