Season: autumn
Pronounced “Poth dee” but sharing the P-Celt and phonetic resonance of Cornwall’s Poldhu Cove on the Lizard Peninsula, this bay and beach are backed by a wooded ravine, known as Bishopston Valley. This shingle beach is located a mile and a half from Bishopston village, where there is parking. I recommend approaching via the attractive Brandy Cove on the coast path to the east. This is a fine getaway beach. The setting is far from the holiday crowds and it’s an ideal spot for birdwatching and an appreciation of the natural environment and its wildlife.
Steve’s appreciation of “a getaway from the built landscape”.

A second view, this time from the water’s edge.
Known as Gower’s best kept secret, Pwll Du Bay is a must visit in South Gower. Steeped in history, with wonderful views from rambles, being dog-friendly all year and pubs just around the corner in the Bishopston Village, there’s plenty to see and do here.
