Season: autumn

The beach at Brighouse Bay is sandy, relatively small and benefiting from the shelter of a long peninsula.  This area has fine walking in both directions.  Access is good, with an adjacent car park and there are rocks to explore alongside the beach and next to the bay.  With a golf club and holiday park to hand, this is a varied setting.  Nearby Borgue and Kirkcudbright, further afield, have more facilities for the visitor.

Season: autumn

Located at the end of a fine coastal walk round from Sandyhills, Rockcliffe is a sandy beach despite its name, welcoming to dogs throughout the year.  Rough Island sits in the bay and can be accessed via a tidal causeway.  The island is closed in May and June to protect the wildlife that breed at this time.  Parking is by the beach, with a cafe nearby.  Top class walks are the order of the day on this outstanding stretch of coastline.

Season: autumn

Sandyhills beach is aptly named, offering a secluded environment in a sheltered bay.  This is an ideal spot for a paddle in the shallow water or for a gentle swim.  Coastal walks are a highlight of this area, running in both directions.  There is good access and adjacent parking, with more facilities in nearby Colvend.  The beach is dog-friendly, allowing access all year round.
