Season: spring

Stretching in an arc from The Skares to Cruden Bay village, this two mile long beach has a timeless quality, due in part to the rocky cliffs that flank it.  There are golf courses nearby and it’s popular with day trippers, water sports enthusiasts and sea fishermen.  Best access is via the burn by the White Lady’s bridge.

Season: spring

Although it’s sandy, Rosehearty’s north-facing beach sits between the harbour and rocky terrain.  There’s a beach car park and water sports enthusiasts are frequent visitors.  The shipwrecks in this part of the Moray Firth also make Rosehearty a popular diving location.  The network of coastal footpaths hereabouts makes this a walkers’ paradise.

Season: summer

The popular beach and the esplanade at Aberdeen are close to the centre of the city.  Both of them stretch all the way from the mouth of the River Don to the harbour. The distinctive groynes that you’ll see running across the beach help to prevent the sand being eroded.  Behind the beach is an attractive wide grassy area, known as the Queen’s Links.  Nearby are an amusement park, restaurants and a cinema.  Aberdeen itself has thrived on the back of the oil industry and so offers all the facilities that you might need.
