Season: autumn
Tankerton is a rural beach with a grassy backdrop and nature nearby, including Oare Marshes Reserve, where you can see curlew, avocet, lapwing and marsh harriers, among others. The beach is sandy, divided by groynes. This is a popular swimming and sailing beach, with clean bathing water and a sailing club next to the beach. There is parking right by the beach and the town has all the facilities that you’ll need, including fish ‘n chips and a cafe. To complete the picture, there are wooden beach huts, a swimming pool and you can visit nearby Whitstable Castle and gardens.
