Season: summer
Cowes is a renowned yachting haven and has a fine marina in the estuary. The beach is to the north of the town, flanked by the Royal Yacht Squadron, part of Henry V111’s Tudor defences. Comprising shingle and sand at low tide, Cowes beach is backed by an esplanade with excellent views out to sea. The flower beds and grassy area behind the esplanade lend a genteel feel to the surroundings and the immediate area also boasts upmarket shops and eateries. The busiest time here is Cowes Week sailing regatta in August.
