Season: autumn
Whitstable West Beach, which is owned by the Whitstable Oyster Company but which has permissive access for the public, is predictably used by the local shell fishing fleet. Whitstable is highly fashionable and well-heeled, with excellent eateries and shops. West Beach is backed by beach huts and there is dinghy sailing in the season, as well as access to tennis courts. The beach itself is shingle. Although there is no lifeguard cover, swimming is safe here and the bathing water is clean. Highly recommended.
