Season: spring

Littlehampton has two beaches, East Beach, also known as Coastguard Station and West Beach. They are split by the River Arun, a bustling marina and harbour and the town has fine architecture.  This was an opportunity to visit the pristine beauty of West Beach. There is a pleasing arc to the beach here and the dunes behind form a part of the golf course’s geography. The setting includes a nature reserve that surrounds the tumbledown West Point Fort.  You can see sand lizards, oyster catchers, cormorants and much more.  It’s a tranquil setting. Interviewee Terry, his wife and I were the only souls here in the middle of the day.  For reference, East Beach offers a range of exciting pursuits, from boating trips to deep sea fishing, or scuba diving to water skiing and sailing.  The promenade there also hosts the famous East Beach Café and there are parks and boating lakes that draw people to Oyster Pond and Mewsbrook Park.

Hi Man on a Beach – thank you – your site has proved to me what a special place the beach can be. I can’t imagine being anywhere else than close to the seaside now! Everytime i come down to have a power walk, I feel grateful and happy to have this place on our doostep. We really try not to take it for granted! Happy Christmas, Mr Man on a Beach- you are a bit of an inspiration, I think!
